Looking for an in-school field trip? Book an author visit!

  • Choose your location.

Do you want a virtual visit (through Zoom, Google Meet, or a similar platform)? Are you a local school (Minneapolis, St. Paul, or surrounding Minnesota suburbs)? Are you in Greater Minnesota, or beyond? I do it all - I happily travel for school visits.

  • Full day, half day, and more.

Fully customizable author visits with virtual, hybrid, and in-person options that range from a single seminar (30 min - hour) to a full day that includes an author lunch with a group of students.

  • Customizable content

Choose from a seminar below, or ask for other options:

    - Writing a Mystery Novel

    - How Does a Book get Published?

    - Telling Your Story

    - Crafting Action Scenes (with special guidance from a real martial arts teacher - me!)

  • Why an author visit?

Author visits can inspire and empower students to tell their own stories, educate students on a career path in an exciting creative field (traditional publishing), and leave them with new skills and enthusiasm for telling their own story.

As a former educator, I'm also happy to provide standards-aligned curriculum to accompany the book talk and/or your student's readthrough!

Plus I'll bring whatever bookish goodies I have on hand (stickers, bookmarks, temporary tattoos, etc.) and sign books!

  • What if we can't afford an author visit?

I am flexible! As a former teacher in a underserved school, I am familiar with the realities teachers face on a regular basis. I have a select number of free & reduced cost author visits per year.

  • What should we do before an author visit?

I'm so glad you asked. Visits can be most productive after some folks (teachers or event both teachers and students) have had a chance to read the book!

Additionally, it's a good idea to ask students to reflect (before the event) on what they would like to ask the author, what questions they have about the topic we're discussing, and anything else they're curious about. That helps us have a more productive meeting together!
